Samsung may unveil a foldable screen laptop with a virtual keyboard very soon
Samsung has been working on foldable devices for a few years now, with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 being largely lauded as a high-functioning device that isn’t compromised by the folding technology. Now, the Korean manufacturer is working on a folding laptop, based on the recent patents filed.
The upcoming folding laptop will not be the first of its kind to enter the market. Lenovo has come out with the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold with a folding display. Similarly, the recently launched ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold OLED has the largest folding screen available in the market at the moment. The patent for the same was filed all the way back in 2020.
How will the Samsung folding laptop work?As per the patent that has been filed, the Samsung folding laptop will allow users to fold it in half, thereby decreasing its size and the storage space required. This laptop is likely to have an OLED panel (like most folding devices) and may have a high refresh rate.
While other folding laptops do come with virtual keyboards, Samsung’s offering will have a virtual trackpad along with the keyboard, which indicates that the laptop will have a touch screen. The schematics for this laptop indicate that the laptop will be quite thin when unfolded, and will come with dual USB Type C ports. These ports may support charging and data transferring functionalities. The laptop is also expected to have a regular selfie camera at the top of the display. The Samsung folding laptop may run on WIndows 11, and have a folding hinge that’s similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4.
